The mission of Virgil I Grissom’s counseling department is to provide an equitable and data driven comprehensive counseling program that is designed to improve the academic, career and post-secondary, and social-emotional development of all students. In agreement with the state, national, and district wide standards, the counseling department strives to help all students develop the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and mindsets to enable growth and reach their full potential, in order to become well rounded individuals that will have the skills necessary to be successful in high school, college, and civic life.

School Counseling Goals

  1. Create a safe school environment where everyone feels safe and welcome
  2. Promote social emotional learning at all grade levels
  3. Increase school-wide attendance
  4. Ensure that all students are prepared for high school
  5. Hold individual and small groups when needed to support students
  6. Provide referrals and outside resources to students and families
